My First Sequel (Part Two)

Well, chapter one is done. So far so good. I tried to start with some nice motion, though the action is slowed somewhat because I have to re-explain the entire magic system in a few choice paragraphs. We’ll have to see what my readers think–I may have done too much narration in this chapter. Things Read the full article…

My First Sequel (Part One)

Interestingly enough, I’ve never written a sequel. After seven years and fourteen novels, you would think that I’d have tried a sequel at least once–but I never have, not really. (Early on, the third book I wrote was a continuation of my first book. I don’t really count it as a sequel, however, since I Read the full article…

Tor Proposal, Part Four

The next segment from my Tor proposal talks about a book some of you may have heard of: THE WAY OF KINGS. Originally, this was going to be the second book I published, but I’ve decided to put it off in favor of MISTBORN. The reasons are explained below. This decision was met with a Read the full article…

My Genre (Part I)

For the last ten years or so, I’ve been focused pretty much on a single goal: Getting published. Most of my efforts happened during the last seven years, during which I wrote fourteen novels, attended numerous conventions, and took a plethora of university courses relating to this topic. Well, it happened. Now I’m left needing Read the full article…

Tor Proposal, Part Three

Okay, here’s another little segment from my Tor proposal. This was the section that got the most attention, which is good, since I delivered a finished copy of MISTBORN to my editor that day. The way things are going, this will be the book that comes out after ELANTRIS. MISTBORN SERIES Mistborn, Book One: The Read the full article…

Elantris 9.0

You might have noticed a new revision in the book updates box. That’s right–I’m working on my NINTH revision of ELANTRIS. I’m beginning to see why authors get tired of a book by the time it goes to press…. Anyway, each revision makes the book just a little bit smoother. I really don’t have many Read the full article…

Tor Proposal, Part Two

Here’s the second segment of the proposal I turned in to Tor before visiting the offices. If you want to read a little more about my visit, hop over to the Time Waster’s Guide (www.timewastersguide.com). This section focuses on sequel opportunities in the ELANTRIS world. We’ll see whatever comes of this–whether or not I ever Read the full article…

Line Edit Done!

Whew! I’m finished with the MISTBORN line edit. Managed to shave 155 pages and 35,000 words–which was just shy of my goal. Overall, I’m happy with the way the book turned out. Initial reactions from readers have all been encouraging, and I’m delivering a copy to my agent tomorrow. We’ll see what he says. I Read the full article…

Tor Proposal, Part One

Okay, so some of you have encouraged me to write about the ‘Fish Fiasco’ here. Well…sorry. I’ve had about enough of that for now. However, I’m committed to bringing you interesting, new content. So, today I think I’ll post part of a proposal I’m working on for Tor. I’m going to send this to them, Read the full article…
