Hey! I figured I’d build a cube, and it turns out there are a lot of cards I either don’t have or have in decks I don’t want to take apart.
Therefore, I’m offering to trade people hardcover books for their old Magic Cards. Before you get further, however, since this will involve shipping books (which are heavy) I have to limit this to the continental United States. I’m very sorry. I guess if you’re overseas, and you’d like to trade for ebooks, we might be able to work something out. But I think in most cases, we just have to stick with the US for now. (Sorry.)
Anyway, here’s how it will work:
1: It has to be a card on the list below. I’ll update this list occasionally, and will post a tweet or facebook update when I do. I am VERY interested in foils/judge promos of these cards too, and will pay in trade for the extra value.
2: I will trade BOOKS ONLY. (Sorry. The jewelry costs too much on my end to be worth trading.) However, I will trade them to you at the price listed on my store page. Basically, figure it at an average of $25-$30 per book. So $90 in trade is three books and so forth.
3: I will give you trade value equal to what this website lists as the higher end price for the card. I’ll look through the list of stores selling the card and choose what seems like a fair price, but one near the top end of the value. (I changed this from what I originally wrote, which had been using the actual highest price, because it looks like often there’s one store that is WAY higher than everyone else.) Please mention if your cards are in less than near mint or slightly played condition.
4: You email me with an offer of cards, I will email you back and we’ll figure out a good trade. Then, you mail me the cards. I’m afraid I have to ask you to mail them first before I mail you back the books. I promise, as a public figure, I’m not going to rip you off. My reputation is worth more than a few cards. (Even magic cards.) 🙂
5: Once I get the cards and look them over, I’ll mail you the books. You pay shipping on getting the cards to me, and I’ll pay shipping on sending the books to you. For mailing me the cards, I’d suggest not just sticking them in an envelope. If you have a plastic toploader, then put them in that and then put that in a bubble envelope.
If you don’t have a toploader, putting the cards in sleeves then taping those to the inside of two pieces of stiff cardboard (which are then taped together) should be all right. If you’re worried, use a small box instead of an envelope. (Actually, I suggest this either way.) You may want to insure them if they’re expensive cards. Please also include a note telling me what names you want me to put in the books as I sign them.
Sound good? If you want to trade, just send me an email through my website.
One more thing. A few of these are worth A LOT. Right now, the list includes Library of Alexandria, Ravages of War, and Imperial Seal. Imperial Seal, for example, would be worth around 26 books. You could fill out your entire collection, have hardcover gifts for everyone on your list, and then some. If you have one of these three you’re willing to trade, I can also dig out some advance copies of books that aren’t yet published. (Not A Memory of Light. Sorry.) That might help sweeten the deal. I also have books in French, Spanish, German, Chinese, and a lot of other languages that you can get in trade for similar prices to their English counterparts.
Conversely, a few of these are worth only three or four bucks. If one of those is the only card you have, I probably won’t be able to trade anything, as the books start at $15. (Though I could send a paperback, if you want.) I mostly list these to help someone put together several smaller cards to get a book they want.
I guess that’s enough blabbing. Here’s the list!
Ravages of War
Avenger of Zendikar
Survival of the Fittest
Sword of Feast and Famine
Sword of Fire and Ice
Sword of Light and Shadow
Sword of War and Peace
Library of Alexandria
Any Zendkiar fetchland
Any Alpha/Beta/Unlimited/Revised dual land
(Note that I’m going to need some more duals eventually, but I just traded for a bunch and want to wait for them to come, count them all up, and see if I have any holes.)
Also, I guess if you REALLY want to get rid of any Power 9 level cards and would like to trade for a huge truckload of books . . . I guess email me. We’ll see. 🙂
